Hero's Journey The Series - Simply Gorgeous

You’re about to take a rockin’ ride alongside some of entertainment’s greatest artists,…travelin’ along with them on their hero’s journey to fame and fortune.
Maybe you’ve never heard of the “Chitlin Circuit.” This was the legendary tour route of juke joints and theatres that spread across the country. From the 1930s to the 1960s, it provided the place where black artists and musicians earned their chops and entertained the in-crowd.

Here, the musician, singer, comedian—and even the emcee—could really make the walls sweat and bring down the house. Some of the greatest artists of all time came through this circuit. Notably, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, BB King, Ike and Tina Turner, Little Richard, Aretha Franklin, and many more.

It’s fitting that our journey should begin with the man who knew them all, and gave many of these artists their first call-up on stage that launched them to stardom.
